Invisalign Q & A
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment system that involves using clear, medical-grade plastic aligners to straighten teeth, leading to an improved smile.
The aligners offer an excellent alternative to the metal wires and brackets that constitute traditional braces. Your aligners are always custom-made to fit your teeth and guide them through a series of planned adjustments.
What are the advantages of Invisalign?
The most prominent advantage of Invisalign is its nearly-invisible aligners. That means adult patients can avoid having a mouth full of metal while straightening their teeth.
Another benefit is that the aligners are easily removable, which makes eating and maintaining good oral hygiene convenient. That means you don’t necessarily need to overhaul your diet during treatment. However, you must wear your aligners for at least 22 hours each day to see optimal results.
Lastly, since your treatment plan consists of specific teeth movements and is meticulously planned, the treatment time is typically shorter than traditional orthodontics. Generally, Invisalign should take approximately 18-24 months to straighten your teeth permanently.
What happens during Invisalign treatment?
First, Dr. Zahedi takes impressions of your teeth that are used to custom-make your aligners and prepare your treatment plan. Once Dr. Zahedi’s plan is set, he sends the impressions and any images to a specialty lab that custom-makes your aligners.
The aligners are produced using cutting-edge, three-dimensional modeling software. The lab makes multiple sets of aligners. Throughout treatment, you wear each set of aligners for about two weeks before exchanging them for a new set.
You also maintain regular office visits about every six weeks, so Dr. Zahedi can monitor your progress.
